There is this huge void in Philippine cinema, that gaping hole right between the poverty porn clad third world films that hit big in Europe and the super sellout big studio movies. No judgments against films of this nature. I just can't stand violence on women. I can't stand gore. I can't stand seeing the shanties of Manila for more than two minutes. And I can't stand predictability.
My wish is to make 'in-the-middle' films. Movies that tell feel-good stories without resorting to sell out formulas, overused character tropes and shock value. I want to create movies set in (hopefully) still unchartered premises revolving around characters that aren't overused.
Jingle Boy is born partly from of my own struggles for success as an artist servicing the advertising industry, and partly from my frustrations with the corruption in the Philippines that affects all sectors of our society ( ironically, including the filmmaking industry).
Jingle Boy is meant to be light and feel good. A comedy, but tackles the Filipinos' weakness for compromise in a nation plagued with nonchalant corruption.
