Filipino visual artist, Mark Salvatus needs your help to fund his travel and new art project to participate in Cosmopolitan Stranger, Hotel de Immigrantes, a parallel event of Manifesta 9, the European Biennial of Contemporary Art, which will open its doors in Genk, Province of Limburg, Belgium. The parallel event in which Mark is part of will be held in Hasselt, Belgium from May 31 – June 7, 2012.
I am Mark Salvatus, a multi-disciplinary artist based in Lucban and Manila, Philippines. I am writing to you to ask for financial assistance because I was invited as an artist and participant at the “Hotel de Immigrantes” : ‘Open University of Diversity’ in Hasselt, Belgium, from May 31 to June 7, 2012, which is a parallel program of Manifesta 9, taking place in Genk, Belgium.
Manifesta is the European Biennial of Contemporary Art, a pan-regional contemporary cultural biennale, described in 2010 by the Wall Street Journal as "stunning in its scope and uncompromisingly experimental in its approach".
One of the ways for Philippine contemporary art to flourish further is for its artists to be continually exposed to the developments in the global art scene. This is one opportunity to represent the Philippines in this big international art event.
I am asking for your assistance to fund my travel expenses and everyday needs while I am in Belgium, since the organizers will not provide the funding for travelling and production of the works. The general idea is to bring artists from different nationalities together and let them live and work at the same place for a definite period.
